Rx-Universe & Antivirus software.

Preface

Rx-Universe should not trigger antivirus software. Some customers find that antivirus software can interfere with Rx-Universe’s performance, and choose to whitelist (exclude from being scanned) the Rx-Universe and Rx-Suite directories.

Any changes to the settings of a customer’s antivirus software should be done by the customer’s IT, and the customer assumes all risks involved.

The easiest and most efficient way to accomplish this, is to whitelist the Rx-Universe and Rx-Suite installation directories in their entirety.

Finding the installation directories

The default installation directory of Rx-Universe, is C:\RxUniverse. As of 2024, Rx-Suite modules should be installed in a subfolder in the Rx-Universe directory; C:\RxUniverse\RxSuite.

If the Rx-Suite modules are installed under the RxUniverse\RxSuite folder, then whitelisting the entire Rx-Universe directory should be sufficient.

Rx-Universe

To verify the installation directory of Rx-Universe, the customer can right-click on one of the Rx-Universe shortcuts on the system’s desktop, and choose “properties” from the context menu to view the shortcut properties. On the properties window, the installation directory should be listed under the “Start In:” field, or the customer can use the “Open File Location” button to open the run8 subfolder in the Rx-Universe directory (EG: C:\RxUniverse\Run8).

Rx-Suite

In the case of an older, or non-standard, deployment, the Rx-Suite modules may not be installed in the RxSuite subfolder. In which case, a customer can find the directory by looking at the properties of the Rx-Suite Windows Services:

Whitelisting executables

It’s possible that a customer is interested in only whitelisting the Rx-Universe and Rx-Suite executables. Below is a series of images that list the .exes in the Rx-Universe installation directory. Some .exes are in subfolders. Please check the note above reach series of images to confirm the path they can be found in.

It is possible that the list provided below is not comprehensive.

RxUniverse\Install

This subdirectory contains Installers for the Rx-Universe Thin-Client and the Rx-Universe Device Sessions Thick Client.

Rx-Universe updates sometimes contain .exes. Version updates are downloaded into the Rx-Universe installation directory into folders with the version number.

In the example below, updates for versions 7.60.01 through 7.65.00 are shown.

It is critical that those folders remain intact until the version update is applied. If a customer’s antivirus is overzealous, it may quarantine a .exe that was supposed to be applied. This can break updates!

Rx-Suite

Each Rx-Suite module uses a complex directory structure, and each module makes use of multiple executables. The easiest way for a customer’s IT to find them, is to navigate to the Rx-Suite installation folder (EG: C:\RxUniverse\RxSuite\) and searching each module’s folder by putting “*.exe” in the Windows Explorer search with the “all subfolders” option selected in the toolbar.
