Varilux S

Varilux S processing adds some additional complexity to the digital interface.  Additional steps in the blocking and verification process require the files received back from Essilor to be saved somewhat differently.

On the Digital Type screen, for Essilor only, is a box titled "Extended Paths".  When clicked, a new box is presenting that allows paths to be specified for the files that will be created for different devices, based on the information returned from Essilor:

Within the LMS file sent back by Essilor are sections identified by LDCRYPT=DEO:CLBS, LDCRYPT=DEO:CTA, etc.  Following the LDCRYPT label, data is encapsulated by _ZZENCRYPT and _/ZZENCRYPT - this data will be extracted into files and saved in the folders indicated by the entries above, and using the file naming convention identified above. If the "Base Name" above is "O", the order number will be used as the base name for the file created; if the "Base Name" entry is "T", then the tray number will be used.

Most designs use the "Path" column; if the lens design is set up with the option "Use Alt DEO paths", then the file(s) will be created in the paths indicated in the "Alt Path" column.  If the "Alt Path" entry is blank, then the entry in "Path" will be used.

This "Alt" path is used to re-direct the surface point and engraving files to a different folder, which makes them unavailable to devices that might request them.

The CLBS blocking equipment will then modify these files, and copy the modified files to the "actual" folders where they can be used by the equipment.

For example, for an LMS file containing several blocks of data, using the above naming conventions and paths:

Setting Up Varilux S Lens Styles

The setup of lens style entries for VxS designs are similar to those for other Essilor designs, with a couple of extra options selected:

On the Digital tab, the options indicated above should be selected.  The "Use Alt DEO paths" triggers the surface point and engraving files to be placed in different folders for use by the CLBS post-proc process, and the suppression of base curve selection and requirement for both eyes are specific to VxS designs.

Some VxS designs have requirements for additional parameters - these can be set on the Optional Fields tab of the lens style - for example, the VxS 4D HE design calls for:

Path of a Varilux S job

When a Varilux S job is received back from DEO, using the path configuration above, the HSC (surface point) files will be saved as:

DS\ESSILOR\CLBS_SDF\12345678_R,HSC and DS\ESSILOR\CLBS_SDF\12345678_L,HSC.  The LDPATH on the job, however, will still point to DS\SDF\123456789_R.HSC and DS\SDF\12345678_L.HSC, even though those files do not, as yet, exist.

When the lenses are blocked and run through the CLBS equipment, the CLBS process will take the HSC files from the DS\ESSILOR\CLBS_SDF folder, modify them, and put the modified files into DS\SDF.  The job can then be called up on equipment.
