Shelf Data and Non-Equiangular Data

Rx-Universe supports both shelf data and non-equiangular data, which can be used by modern edgers such as the ES-Curve.

Currently, both shelf data and non-equuangular data can be loaded into Rx-Universe by importing frame trace file(s) with this data. These files can be created using software such as the SatisLoh Frame Editor.

Once imported, the shelf data and/or non-equiangular data, as well as the equivalent equiangular data, can be viewed on the "Radii" tab in the frame trace record.

If present, the shelf data can be viewed on the "Shelf" tab:

Devices

The use of either shelf data or non-equiangular requires special handling by devices, and because many devices do not support either, certain rules are implemented within Rx-Universe to handle these.

All frame traces that are imported as non-equiangular traces will have the equivalent equiangular shape stored with the trace; this equiangular shape will be used for any device which requests the shape and does not support non-equiangular data, except for edgers. This restriction is put in place to ensure that a frame trace that includes non-equiangular data is edged on an edger that supports it.

Other devices, such as finish blockers and digital calculators, use the data for approximate purposes, and the equiangular shape should be sufficient.

In the case of shelf data, this is sent only to devices which support shelf data.  As with non-equiangular data, a frame trace which contains shelf data will only be sent to an edger which supports shelf data, again, to ensure the lens is edged correctly.

An edger which supports non-equiangular data or shelf data must be explicitly identified on the Edger tab of the device setup for that edger:

If a frame trace which has shelf data or non-equiangular data is requested by an edger that does not support this data, the data will not be sent to the edger.  If the edger supports error messaging (STATUS=3), then an appropriate error message will be sent to the edger, otherwise the edger will be sent a status indicating the order cannot be found.

Note that older, non-VCA edgers (such as the Gerber Triumph, Coburn TSM-30 interface, or National Optronics Gateway), because they operate on older interfaces, do not do this check to ensure they support the data in the frame trace, so they would receive equiangular trace data for these traces.  The lab will need to ensure that processes are in place to prevent frames with this type of data from being requested on these older edgers.
