Drill Points

Overview

The OMA interface requires a method of storing and sending the Drill points information on  rimless frames.

There are several limitations to a drill point pattern that must be understood.  For “DRILL” type frames the pattern size cannot be adjusted.  If the user requires the same pattern for a different eye-size, they will have to trace a new pattern for the size required.

There is no way of knowing where the drill points are supposed to be when changing eye sizes.   This being the case, once a “DRILL” frame is created, the “A value” field is set to zero and access to this field is removed.

If a user enters a Customer Circumference on the order, the entry in this field will be ignored by the OMA interface if the order is using a “DRILL pattern”.

Accessing The Frame Tracing Database:

From the Rx-Universe Main Menu, select “Orders” then “Frame Tracings”:

Find your frame and double click to modify or click once and then click on the "Edit" button

A “Drill” pattern is determined as follows:

  • Under the “Tracing” Tab:
    • Set the “Trace Type” to “Lens”.

  • Under the “VCA Info” Tab:
    • Set the “VCA Frame Type” to “Rimless”.
    • Set the “VCA Edge Type” to “Rimless”.

Once these three fields are set, the adjustment “A value” field is set to ZERO, resetting any changes this field had done to the trace.

It also give you the access to the Drill Point Data Function by pressing the  button located in your tool box at the top of your screen.

Drill Points Data Function:

Once you are in the “Edit Pattern” mode (Frame Tracing Database), to access the Drill Data Function, press the <F1>:Draw Pattern:

The Drill Point Coordinates screen is setup into two sections, one for the entry of up to eight(8) right eye drill points and the other for the entry of up to eight(8) left eye drill points.

NOTE: The VCA interface documentation states the the left eye points will mirror the right right eye points if they are not explicitly entered.

The Cartesian coordinates for the hole start and end positions are referenced viewing the front surface of the lens, with its origin at the frame’s center and:

  • +x = Right Eye towards nasal, Left eye towards temple.
  • -x = Right Eye towards temple, Left eye towards nasal.
  • +y = above frame centre.
  • -y = below frame centre.

To access the Drill Points, click on the "Drill Points" button:

The fields to be entered for each drill point are as follows:

FieldDescription
Point #This will increment automatically each time you add a Drill Point.  You can maneuver through the points by clicking on the up arrow or the down arrow buttons.
X-StartStart x-coordinate – in mm from frame geometric center.
Y-StartStart y-coordinate – in mm from frame geometric center.
X-EndEnd x-coordinate – in mm from frame geometric center. Leave this field at zero for a round hole
Y-EndEnd y-coordinate – I mm from frame geometric center. Leave this field zero for a round hole.
Drill diameterHole diameter – in mm.  If zero, hole will be drilled to diameter of the device drill tool.
Drill depthHole depth – in mm. If zero, hole will be drilled through the lens.
Drill method
  • B – normal to back of lens .
  • F – normal to front of lens.
  • A – specified drill angle based on the following fields.
    • lateral angle in degrees (-45 to +45 degrees).
    • vertical angle in degrees (-45 to +45 degrees).

Lateral angleLateral angle in degrees (-45 to +45 degrees).
Vertical angleVertical angle in degrees (-45 to +45 degrees).
Rectangular holeCheck “√” this box if you want a rectangular (instead of circular) hole.

To Enter Drill Points:

To enter a Drill Point, click on the  button:

  • You will noticed that the “Point #” has incremented by 1.
  • You now how access to all the coordinates and drill options.
  • Once you have entered all your information for this Drill Point, click on the  button to save all your information.  If you decide that you do not want to save your information, click on the button.
  • You will notice while you are setting up the Drill Point that you will able to see the actual location and size of your drill point on the drawing (graphics) on the left:

Once you save and return to the Main Drawing screen you will see the Drill Points information added to the screen.

To Delete Drill Points

You can delete one (at a time) drill point by going to the Drill Point and clicking on the  button.  Or you can delete them all by clicking on the  button.

To Exit The Drill Points Function

Just click on the  button.
