Multi-Workstation System

Server Specifications

  • Windows Server 2016 and above. (Windows Server 2019 recommended).
    • It is up to the customer to determine the version/license that best suits their needs and environment. However, Rx-Universe will not run on "Core" editions due to the lack of a Desktop environment.
    • Rx-Universe will run on Windows Server 2022. However these platforms have not been extensively tested for stability.
  • Processor operating, 4 core 8 thread minimum (8 core 16 thread recommended for 500+JPD, 12 core 24 thread for 1000+JPD)
  • Minimum 16 GB of RAM (24 recommended for 500+JPD, 48 for 1000+JPD)
  • Available hard disk space as calculated (see section on “estimating hard disk capacity)
  • One Thin-Client user license is required for each Rx-Universe session.
  • Virus protection software (such as Symantec, AVG, McAfee, etc) with whitelisting of the following folders: RxUniverse and sites.
  • Auto logged in user with sufficient permission to run the following application: Digital Processor, Job Tracker, Remote Processor, E-mail Notification, Devices (Serial and TCP/IP)
  • Data storage for the application is done with a combination of ISAM files and either Postgres SQL or MSSQL

Network & Communication

  • TCP/IP Lan 100/1000(preferred)
  • (LAN) Local Static TCP/IP address is required if interfacing the devices (machines) through a TCP/IP connection.
  • To enable remote support by Rx-Universe, or outside access via thin-client, a static IP or DNS must be provided, and port# 5640 must be opened on the router and forwarded to the Rx-Universe server
  • Port 6523 and Lens Update: http://omics.dnsalias.com inbound and outbound: If the router blocks both incoming and outgoing connections, “port# 6523” must be open for outgoing connections to allow updates of programs, lens data, manufacturer report specifications, Eyefinity translations, etc.
  • Rx-Suite: http://omics.dyndns.biz:3333 for updates and license, inbound and outbound.

  • If VisionWeb is used: sftp.visionweb.com port 22, inbound and outbound.

  • If Opticom is used: opticomftp.com port 22, inbound and outbound.
  • If Eyefinity is used: echannel.eyefinity.com port 20 and 21, inbound and outbound.
  • The lab must provide some method to grant access to the server for the RxUniverse support team, TeamViewer is preferred.

Device Interfaces

The Rx-Universe Device Interface is use for data communication between the different surfacing and finishing machines and Rx-Universe.   There are two different methods of data interface communication in Rx-Universe.  Both communication methods can be used on the same computer or just one method or the other:

  • With TCP/IP you can run normal network cable (RJ45) from your network router to your devices just like connecting a Workstation on your network.  This is becoming more and more common with the newer ophthalmic machines.

Backup system

OMICS Software Inc. recommends that you have proper backup and recovery procedures in place for your Rx-Universe system and its data files as part of a disaster recovery plan (DRP).  You are responsible for providing adequate backups to ensure the recovery of your Rx-Universe system and its data files in the event of a failure of a system failure and or data lost & corruption.

Omics Software Inc. highly recommend that you consult your current IT provider to help you organize and plan a proper disaster recovery plan (DRP) based on the below examples of a suggested preferred best practices:

  • A daily backup procedure
  • An off-site backup procedure
  • A minimum 14 days backup retention.
  • A daily off-site rotation
  • A routine monitoring and testing of backup systems

Estimating Hard Disk Capacity

Hard disk capacity will vary depending on which Rx-Universe modules are active, how much job history you care to retain, and the amount of time the history is saved on your system. The following hard disk space estimates will provide adequate capacity for most labs using our complete management solution and saving all orders with complete job history and frame traces for 5 years.

Jobs per day

Total disk space req’d

up to 500

200 Gig

501 to 1000

400 Gig

1001+

600 Gig

Rx-Site

  • If Rx-Site is to be used, the lab must have either a WAN static IP address provided by their ISP, or a Dynamic DNS
routing service that provides a static URL to their WAN IP.
  • On the Router/Firewall Bi-Directional all communication on “port# 6523” must be forwarded to the Static Lan IP of the Rx-Universe Server.

Workstations Specifications

  • Windows Operating System (32 bit/64Bit); Windows 10 or above
  • Minimum 8 GB of RAM.
  • Processor operating at 2.0 GHz or higher (Multiple-core processor operating at 2.33 GHz recommended)
  • TCP/IP Lan 100/1000(preferred)Workstations set up as members of the domain.
  • A up to date chromium based browser (Chrome, Edge, Chromium, Opera)
  • Device stations is the same as the Stand Alone Workstation requirements:
  • With TCP/IP you can run normal network cable (RJ45) from your network router to your devices just like connecting a Workstation on your network.  This is becoming more and more common with the newer ophthalmic machines.
  • With a Serial Port; A device workstation accepting requests by serial connection must have enough serial ports available for the devices to be connected.  This can be accomplished with serial ports directly in the computer or by means of an external multi-port serial adapter.  Each job tracking scanner used in the lab also must connect to a device workstation by a serial connection.
