Introduction
This document provides instructions for setting up printer routing using Group Controls. Using Group controls allows you to define specific rules for printer routing, such as printing to a specific printer based upon account, coating, services, etc.
Procedure
Custom Configuration
The following custom configuration must be enabled.
From the Optifacts main menu:
Select Option 3 - Editor Utilities and press Enter.
Select Option 6 - Configuration Editor and press Enter.
Select Option 6 – Edit Custom Configuration and press Enter.
The Custom Configuration Editor displays.
- Press “Q” to Query.
If the table does not exist:
- Press “A” to add a new record.
- Enter all the information as shown in the following diagram.
- Press Escape to save the data.
- Press “E” to exit.
Group Controls
From the Optifacts main menu:
Select Option 3 – Editor Utilities and press Enter.
Select Option 11 – Job Routing Menu and press Enter.
Select Option 14 – Group control Menu and press Enter.
Refer to the Group Controls & Job Routing Rules Setup for complete instructions on setting up each menu option within the Group Control Menu.
In this document, we will set up an example for Printer Routing by Account.
Select Option 4 – Group Account Table and press Enter.
- Add an entry for each of the account(s) that require special routing.
- Create a unique “Account Name Set.”
- Assign a priority number.
- Input the account number as the beginning and ending account code.
- Press Escape to save the entry.
- Press “E” to exit the screen.
The examples shown below should be fine for your entries. Make sure to use the account number for your location, not “100”.
Select Option 2 – Group Control Editor and press Enter.
- Create a Control Name Set and priority value on this screen. For example, for the “Control Name Set,” you will enter “”
- Input the Table 1 and Table 1 Name Set. The “Table 1 Name Set” is the “Account Name Set” from your entry in menu 3-11-14-4.
- Add ANOTHER record, and this time use the Control Name Set of “PRINTERLA0.”
These few entries will allow you to use PC0 and LA0 in the printer routing controls. The conditions are only met if an account number you specified in the Group Account table is active. When this happens, the printing will first try to find and print to entry PC0/LA0. If PC0/LA0 cannot be found, then printing happens on PCL/LAY.
If an operator trying to print does not have a routing entry for printer PC0/LA0, it does not matter if the account matches. Printing will happen on PCK/LAY.
If you only desire the special routing to happen when the job is an incoming electronic order, then only do printer routing controls for PC0/LA0 for the “remot” operator name.
Printer Routing

From the Optifacts main menu:
Select Option 3 – Editor Utilities and press Enter.
Select Option 5 - Printer Routing Editor and press Enter.
- Enter the user name or input port.
- Enter the program name. (PC0)
- Enter the output port or file.
- Select the printer from the drop-down list.
Is this data OK <y/n>?
- Press “Y” if correct.
- Press “N” to return to the CPU input port field.
The following diagrams show you examples of printer routing for the “remot” operator name.
Job Routing Reason and Control Manager
The Job Routing Reason and Control Manager are used to define a condition for a product or product group but are also used in Printer Routing.
- Select Option 3 - Editor Utilities and press Enter.
- Select Option 11 - Job Routing and press Enter.
- Select Option 8 - Route Reason and Control Editor and press Enter.
The Job Routing Reason and Control Manager screen is displayed. This table has three screens.
- Press “S” to view the next screen.
- When editing an entry, press Enter through all the fields to access the subsequent screens.

The diagram below is an example of Printer Routing for jobs with the lite-up Wrap Frame turned on.
The following rule is set up with the WRAP FRAME lite-up num and bit.
The diagram below is an example of Printer Routing for jobs that are non-stocked.
The following rule would require that you set up a Job Data Definition. Refer to Job Data Definitions and Triggers documentation for full details.
