- There are two tables used to assign customs codes:

- customs_dtl, which holds the criteria for assigning that customs code
- Enter the customs code and the short and long legal descriptions for each customs code to be assigned.
- Press “D” for Detail. The cursor is now present in the lower section of the screen.
- Press “A” to add criteria for each code.
Adding Criteria
Commercial Codes
There are four levels of criteria for assigning a customs code. The top-most line (Commercial Code) is the most specific, working down to the bottom line (Product Type), the most generic.
If you use commercial codes for lenses and options codes for instruments, parts, and services, use the Commercial Code here to assign a customs code specifically.
The following is a Lens example with commercial code “123456789”
The following is an Instrument example with option code “11101110101”
Lens Material and Style
The next level of criteria is specific to lenses and is assigned based on the material and style of the lens. If no record gets found for the lens’s specific commercial code, Optifacts will then check this criteria level.
Plastic Progressive Lens Example
Part Group
The third criteria level is specific to instruments, parts, and services that use our Parts Inventory module. For example, the Part Group defined in the Miscellaneous Parts Editor can be entered here to assign a group of parts to a particular customs code. If no record gets found for the instruments, parts, or services specific option code, Optifacts will then check this criteria level.
Parts in Part Group “OTH” Example
Adding Criteria – General Product Type
The final level of criteria is generic based on the type of product. Entries allowed are LENS (for lenses), FRAME (for frames and frame pieces), CNTCT (for contact lenses), and PART (for instruments, parts, and services). If a more specific entry is not found for the product, Optifacts will check here for the product type.
Frame Example
Entering a Job: (Order Entry or Stock Pricing)
Enter a job through either Order Entry or Stock Pricing. Then, the Customs Codes are assigned and output when a general delivery note or faktura gets printed.
Output in Statement XML File - (Must be using XML statements)
If a line item has a customs code (right lens, left lens, frame, or line item on a stock invoice), it will be output in the statement XML file in the /statement/detail/detail_record/itemize_record/customs_code and /statement/detail/detail_record/itemize_record/customs_description XML tags.
At the end of the statement XML file, the customs codes represented on the statement will be summarized in the following /statement/trailer/customs_codes_summary sub-tags:
./customs_code_line/customs_code – the customs code
./customs_code_line/long_description – the long legal description of the customs code
If countries of origin are also used, customs codes will be summarized within each country of origin in the following /statement/trailer/countries_of_origin sub-tags:
./country_line/customs_code_line/customs_code – the customs code
./country_line/customs_code_line/code_description – the short legal description of the customs code
./country_line/customs_code_line/pieces – the number of pieces assigned this customs code with this country of origin
./country_line/customs_code_line/value – the value before tax for pieces assigned this customs code with this country of origin
