Overview

IOT is a fairly straight-forward interface, with a few things to note.

Most IOT designs use the BRS request to determine the optimal base curve to use.  The exception are the Camber designs, where IOT will provide base curve charts; these must be set up in Rx-Universe and the lens style(s) set to use the Camber chart.

IOT does support the use of blocked prism, so they will send back the KPRV? labels in the LMS file.  If blocking prism is not desired, be sure to set the "Blocker maximum prism" field on the "DS" record for IOT to 0, to suppress this.


Camber Designs

The Camber designs require a few things to be set differently. 

First, Camber designs do not use BRS request, but rather base curve charts which are provided by IOT.  These charts must be set up in Rx-Universe by the lab, and the lens style set to use the appropriate chart.  For example, if the chart is set up using chart "CA", then the lens style must be set to use that chart; on the lens style General tab:

Second, the donor blanks (pucks) used for Camber designs have aspheric, degressive-style front surfaces.  IOT allows them to be blocked either upside-down, or in a "default" setting.  When using Rx-Universe, they should be blocked "upside-down", the same as a progressive would be (with the add portion of the blank "up" on the blocker). 

Third, the Camber designs use VCA labels to identify whether the lens is photochromatic, or polarized, and what color the lens is. If using an older implementation of IOT, it is possible these labels might not be in the list of labels sent to the calculator from Rx-Universe.  This can be easily changed by modifying the LDI file for IOT to include PHOTO and POLAR.  Please see the section on Use of LDI (initialization files) with Digital Vendors for more information on this.

Lenticularization / Edge Blending

IOT has the option of allowing many designs to be "lenticularized", where the lab can specify a bowl size, in which the design is "true", and outside of the diameter, the lens is "blended" to minimize the thickness.  

If the design has "_L" anywhere in the LNAM (on the digital tab), then the field "Blend Diam / Bowl Size" can be set on the F12 screen in order entry.

In the above example, the progressive design would be cut into a 40mm bowl, and the lens outside of that 40mm bowl would be "blended" to minimize thickness in the finished product.


Verification Ticket

IOT has an option to create a verification ticket in some versions and for some customers.  If this option is enabled at the lab, Rx-Universe can automatically print the verification ticket as long as the ticket (the PDF file) is placed into the same folder as the SDF files (this would be set within the IOT software).

To have the IOT PDF verification ticket print automatically when the order is processed by the Digital Processor (or by Order Entry if that option is being used for digital calculations), on the Digital tab of the System Parameters:

Then, in the workstation setup of the computer that will be processing the LMS files (either DS for the digital processor, or the work station number of each OE workstation that is processing digital, if the "Process at OE" option is being used), set the printer that you want the verification ticket to be printed to:

When this is set, the jobnumber.PDF file that is created (by IOT) in the SDF folder, will be automatically printed each time an LMS file is processed, on the printer specified in the IOT ticket setting for that workstation.

Printing IOT Verification Ticket At Shipping

Instead of, or in addition to, printing the verification ticket at time of calculation, the verification ticket can be printed at time of completion, if the lab is using the job tracking module. 

On the job tracking station that is used for shipping, set the printer for the IOT verification ticket:

When an IOT digital job is shipped using this job tracking station, if the verification ticket exists in the SDF folder, it will be automatically printed to the printer designated in this record.
