You do not have to use Envelope Numbers, but they might be necessary if coating envelopes distributed with tracking numbers longer than seven digits. The tray number is limited to 7 digits in Optifacts.
Labs that send out coating envelopes can determine a sequence of envelope numbers or control numbers outside the range of trays used by the lab. If these numbers are configured as ENVELOPE NUMBER LOW and HIGH, the Basket Assignment process will accept numbers within this range for the tray number prompt. It will then look for this number in the patient name field to assign lenses to baskets.
If a lab has trays between 1000 and 9999, it can define a sequence of envelope numbers between 20000 and 30000. When envelopes come in, they can be keyed in as trays since the envelope numbers are less than seven digits long. However, if control or envelope numbers are longer than seven digits, key them in as patient names and use the Envelope Number range to allow basket assignment.
