Introduction
This document provides instructions for setting up Blank Switching. This process allows the entry of one named product while using another lens in production. The tables show the original lens information along with the switched lens information, any applicable lite-ups, calc options, and/or recall options for blanks being switched.
Examples:
- Setup Digital work where you want the job to be entered and priced as one type of design but use another in production.
- Single vision lenses with a coating lite-up and you want it to switch to use a stock finished lens with factory coat.
Procedure
Blank Switch for Digital or Other Semi-finished Lens Jobs
From the Optifacts main menu:
Type 8 - Blank Selection and press enter.
Type 12 - Blank Switch Editor and press enter.
The Blank Switch Editor screen displays.
Lens Selection Master
The 1st step in this process you will be working in the Lens Selection Master table ( lens_sel_mst ). Notice that the brackets are on the left side of the screen opening the fields for data entry. In this table you will enter the data of the lens that will be entered at the time of order entry. (What the operator keys in or is received electronically.)
- Type A to add a record. If you were updating an existing entry, then you would press U to update.
In our following examples: We are switching from a 1.6 material TL, Progressive style P, type VXF Varilux Freedom 3, color TXB Xtractive Brown (this is what they have entered at order entry) to a 1.6 material TL, Single Vision style SV, type NA, color TXB Xtractive Brown (this is the lens that will be used in production).
- Enter all applicable data, pressing enter past each field.
- CBT Desc - Commercial Brand description or Family Name (or enter “NONE” if you are not using the entry for CBT)
- System ID
- Account
- Type
- Material - Original Lens Material code.
- Style - Original Lens Style code
- Seg Sz - Original Lens Seg Size (or “0” for no seg size) for multi focal.
- Lens Type - Original Lens Type code (or “NA” for no lens type) for aspheric or progressive lenses.
- Color - Original Lens Color code.
The following fields are filled in with the defaults and you should not have to change them unless one of the fields needs to be different.
- Sphere - Beginning sphere range to Ending sphere range (inclusive), from lowest minus to highest plus.
- Cylinder - Beginning cylinder range to Ending cylinder range (inclusive), from lowest minus to highest plus.
- Cyl Axis - Beginning cylinder axis to Ending cylinder axis (inclusive),
- Add Power - Beginning add power range to ending add power range (inclusive), from lowest to highest.
- Prog. Fit Ht. - For Aspheric and Progressive, the Beginning fit height to the Ending fit height – maximum value (0 for others), from lower limit to upper limit.
- Thickness - (I) for Industrial, (D) for Dress or (*) for both.
- Groove - (G) for Groove, (N) for Not groove or (*) for both.
- Drill - (D) for Drill, (N) for Not drill or (*) for both.
The following fields are mandatory.
- Priority = Master tables priority number (any number).
Priority
*** It is important to remember that in these tables, the priority number makes selections based on lowest to highest number. For Example: If you have 2 detail entries for 1 master table, put the 1st selection at the lowest number and the 2nd at a higher number. ***
- Record ID = Master linking ID number (any number).
- You may create these entries with a * for material and * for color, using the same priority and record ID, adding to multiple CBTs. Same for the detail side, for example, the style is SV and the material and color are added with *. This is because the calculator returns the product that is going to be used according to the product code. (Optifacts Menu 3-14-6 Refer to the Commercial Branding Tool (CBT) Setup document for full details.) This is for digital only.
- Press Enter past the record ID and you will be taken to the Light-Up Group field on the 2nd screen.
Note: You are still working in the Lens Selection Master table (lens_sel_mst)
- Enter the lite-up group number into this field and press enter (If the lite-up group is applicable to the master table. If not, leave as 0)
- This could be a predetermined group number or a new one that you are creating. If it is relative to a specific lite-up, recall option or calc option, you could use that number as reference to make it easier to remember what it is for. For example, on digital jobs, you may want to use group # 12 which is relative to recall option 12 in order entry which forces the system to use SF lenses. This could be applied to all digital where you are switching to a single vision lens and we do not want the system to pick a stock finished lens. Another example would be to use the lite-up number applicable to coating lite-up used at order entry that you want to use to trigger the switch from SF with a coating lite-up to a Stock Finished AR lens. For further details on this, please refer to the instructions later in this document on Switch SF with Coat Lite-up to Coated Stock Finished Lens.
- Enter the Min Fit Height and press enter (if applicable).
- Press Escape to save the data.
- Type E to exit back to the menu.
- Press Escape to return to the Optifacts main menu.
Important
*** It is very important to exit back to the Optifacts main menu after each step in the Lens Selection Master ( lens_sel_mst ) table before going any further. The blank switch form has many different table dependencies and master/detail relationships that data found in earlier queries can affect subsequent operations. Returning to the main menu will ensure that records maintain the correct relationships. ***
