This document outlines FCS Warning/Error Codes.

Warning Codes by Frame Type:

Full Rim

FCS Message:

Check HBOX consistency between sides

Explanation:

Difference between Right & Left “A” size exceeds tolerance level

Severity Level:

Medium

Results:

Calculates, with warning on ticket

Sources:

FCS settings: tolerance = 1.0 mm difference

Corrective Actions:

1) Validate as OK to use (as is)

2) Stabilize the two sides within tolerance level and trace again

3) Trace the “better” of the two sides and be aware that a size error might exist

FCS Message:

Check VBOX consistency between sides

Explanation:

Difference between Right & Left “B” size exceeds tolerance level

Severity Level:

High: If not corrected, may result in dissimilar seg heights or poor cosmetic acceptance

Results:

Sources:

FCS settings: tolerance = 1.0 mm difference

Corrective Actions:

1) Validate as OK to use (as is)

2) Stabilize the two sides within tolerance level and trace again

3) Trace the “better” of the two sides and be aware that a size error might exist

Explanation:

Curve difference is slightly higher than frame flexibility but less than 0.50 diopters

Severity Level:

Low: Will likely not result in a poor bevel

FCS settings: frame flexibility = +/- 2.00 diopters, CurveGapMaximum = 3.00 diopters

Corrective Actions:

1) Review differences between applied bevel position & lens curve – if acceptable, proceed

2) Pick lenses closer to frame curve

3) Reduce/Increase frame curve closer to lens curve and trace again

4) Change beveling to another type (Layout operation)

Explanation:

1) Validate lens thickness, and if acceptable, ignore warning and proceed

2) Make lenses the correct thickness

Explanation:

Bevel curve specified (manual input) and FCS does not agree with our choice

Corrective Actions:

1) Remove requested bevel position/curve, and process through FCS again or validate as ok

2) Common on Polaroid’s since they always bevel to lens curve regardless of frame curve

3) Run on non-FCS edger using another bevel (e.g. “automatic”) setting.

Severe differences between frame and lens curves

Explanation:

Difference between frame curve (flexed) & lens curve severe

Severity Level:

Very High: Will result in a non-aesthetic bevel position if not corrected or reviewed

Results:

Sources:

FCS settings: AAT function not active

Corrective Actions:

1) Change lens curve, bend frame closer, or change frame flex amount

2) Specify a different bevel position at Layout, and re-process

3) Run on non-FCS edger using another bevel setting (manual by operator)

FCS Message:

Check lens thickness

Explanation:

Lens too thin to groove and maintain the minimum thickness

Severity Level:

High

Results:

Calculates, with warning on ticket

Sources:

FCS settings: tolerance = 0.5 mm to either side of groove (default width = 0.7 mm**)

Corrective Actions:

1) Validate lens thickness, and if acceptable, ignore warning and proceed

2) Make lenses the correct thickness

** 0.7 mm wide is the default for ES-types. It is configured to lesser widths for the 6E/7E edgers

Selected groove position is not a good fit

Explanation:

Specified grooving curve will not fit in the lens

1) Remove requested groove curve, and process through FCS again

2) Run on non-FCS edger using another groove (e.g. “standard”) setting

Several codes relating to “FLAT” frame/edge types are not detailed here. Those types are used in Europe and infrequently apply to the ELOA labs. For reference, those code numbers are; 5980, 5981, and 5982. Should any of these codes appear on a work ticket, please notify FCS Support (OTG).
