Introduction
This document will explain how to navigate using the Wildcard feature. Using a wildcard allows you to define the search or restrict the system’s search.
Procedure
3 Wildcards are available. The wildcards are restricted to use in alpha character fields.
- ( * ) Asterisk
- ( = ) Equal Sign
- ( ? ) Question Mark
Using the ( * ) Asterisk and/or ( = ) Equal Sign
Note: The ( = ) equal sign is not available for use in all menus. Use the wild cards to match a name or part of a name.
Use an equal sign (=), or an asterisk (*) wildcard before, within, or after the letters in the query.
- If placed before, the search will be for all names ending with the specified text.
- If placed within, the search will be for all names containing the specified text
- If placed after, the search will be for all names beginning with the specified text.
- If placed before and after, the search will be for all names containing the specified text.
Examples:
- * Doe - System will retrieve all names of Doe or names beginning with Doe.
- Barbara * - System will retrieve all names of Barbara or names beginning with Barbara.
- * Doe * - System will retrieve all names that contain the letters d, o and e in that order, as in the name Beddoes.
Using the ( ? ) Question Mark
Use this wildcard to match a single character.
- Lehm?n - The system will retrieve any spelling of Lehman, Lehmen, Lehmon, or any other name which contains the same letters.
