Introduction
This document will explain how to navigate using the Wildcard feature. Using a wildcard allows you to define the search or restrict the system’s search.
Procedure
3 Wildcards are available. The wildcards are restricted to use in alpha character fields.
- ( * ) Asterisk
- ( = ) Equal Sign
- ( ? ) Question Mark
Using the ( * ) Asterisk and/or ( = ) Equal Sign:
Note: The ( = ) equal sign is not available for use in all menus. Use the wild cards to match a name or part of a name.
- *Doe or = Doe - The system will retrieve all name of Doe or names ending with Doe.
- Barbara* or Barbara= - The system will retrieve all names of Barbara or names beginning with Barbara
- *Doe* or =Doe= - The system will retrieve all names that contain the letters d, o and e in that order, as in the name Beddoes.
Using the ( ? ) Question Mark:
Use this wildcard to match a single character.
- Lehm?n - The system will retrieve any spelling of Lohman, Lohmen, etc.
