Envelope Numbers need not be used, but they might be necessary if coating envelopes have been distributed with tracking numbers that are longer than 7 digits. The tray number is limited to 7 digits in Optifacts.
Labs that send out coating envelopes can determine a sequence of envelope numbers or control numbers that is outside of the range of trays that the labs use. If these numbers are configured as ENVELOPE NUMBER LOW and HIGH, the Basket Assignment process will accept numbers within this range for the tray number prompt. It will then look for this number in the patient name field in order to assign lenses to baskets.
If a lab has trays between 1000 and 9999, it can define a sequence of envelope numbers between 20000 and 30000. When envelopes come in, they can be keyed in as trays since the envelope numbers are less than 7 digits long. However; if control or envelope numbers are longer than 7 digits, key them in as patient names and use the Envelope Number range to allow basket assignment.
